Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa, was accorded a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to theatre and cinema. His mortal remains have now been brought to Donje in Pune, where his last rites will be performed, and several celebrities and prominent personalities have begun arriving to pay their final respects.Nana Patekar suffered a cardiac arrest at his Goa residence and was given continuous CPR for around 45 minutes. He died at 5:20 am. His son, Malhar, confirmed the news to The Indian Express and said, “Yes, the information is true. I am in Pune right now and reaching Goa. I will come up with detailed statement. He died due to natural reasons.”Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar announced that Nana would be accorded a state funeral, recognising his immense contribution to theatre and cinema. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also paid his last respects to the actor at Pune Airport after his mortal remains arrived from Goa.The mortal remains were subsequently taken from the airport to Donje village, where the final rites are being held. As Nana’s mortal remains have reached the farmhouse, members of the film industry and political fraternity have started arriving to pay their last respects to the veteran actor.Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was among the first prominent personalities to reach the venue for Nana Patekar’s funeral. More celebrities and well-wishers are expected to arrive in Donje as the actor’s final journey continues.
