JAMMU: The CISF jawan who shot dead four colleagues, including an assistant commandant, at an NHPC hydel plant in J&K’s Kathua district had allegedly got into a heated argument with one of the victims over bringing his child to the project site, police said Wednesday.The accused head constable, Abhidesh Kumar Singh of Bihar, was remanded in seven-day police custody. DG (CISF) Parveen Ranjan visited the project site to oversee the situation and get a first-hand report from officers on the previous evening’s fratricide.Police said Abhidesh and his wife Pooja, both head constables with CISF, were posted at the same Sewa-III project of the central PSU at Basohli—near the Himachal Pradesh border—but assigned different shifts. The unit administration had not allowed Pooja to enter or stay in the Quarter Guard area with her young child, aged about two-and-a-half.“While joining their respective shift at the site, either spouse would bring the toddler along to hand him over to the one heading home, despite being repeatedly warned against bringing the child to the project site. Even on Tuesday, one of them had brought the child to the site to hand over to the spouse, and someone complained about it to the Company Commander,” an officer said.

“The complaint made to Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey incensed the accused. In a fit of rage, Abhidesh walked into the Operations section office near the main gate and opened indiscriminate fire, killing Pandey, sub-inspector Lakshman Singh, and constables Sanjeev Kumar and Mohammed Rafiq,” the officer said.The attack wasn’t an isolated one among security personnel in this J&K zone under Jammu division. On Aug 14 this year, a village defence Guard, Surjeet Singh, gunned down a colleague and critically injured another following a scuffle in Udhampur, around 120km from Kathua.
