ISL: Antonio Habas leaves Inter Kashi with immediate effect; assistant coach to step in | Football News
New Delhi: Antonio Habas has left Inter Kashi with immediate effect, TimesofIndia.com has learnt. The Spanish manager announced the decision on social media. He had been with the club for two seasons, leading them to the top tier.On Instagram, Habas wrote: ‘End of the chapter: Mission accomplished’ with the caption: “Trust is built through keeping commitments, and unfortunately, when those commitments are not fulfilled, trust is lost.”
The club confirmed that the Spaniard had a contract until the end of the season but has decided to step away with two games remaining in the season. The assistant coach Abhijit will manage the promoted club against Mohun Bagan Super Giants on Tuesday.Habas had joined Inter Kashi in 2024 and guided the club to the I-League title the next season. It made him the only manager to win both the I-League and the Indian Super League (ISL) titles. The 68-year-old had made stinging remarks after their 0-3 loss vs Punjab FC last month. “Inter Kashi is in a very, very complicated situation with a lot of problems in the club … We need to talk about the situation of the players and staff with the owner of the club, because it’s impossible to compete in the ISL,” he had said.“I am very, very sad about this situation. We have been fighting since the last season 100 per cent, and now it’s possible that the players and staff will not receive their salaries. It’s impossible,” he had continued.A club official, however, had attributed these comments to the clubs’ difficult legal position imposed by Churchill Brothers’ legal challenges.Inter Kashi, currently 10th in the standings, will conclude their season against SC Delhi on May 17.
